Orana School

Builder – Canberra Building Services

Works:

  • Preschool and kindergarten embracing the Steiner philosophy (no right angles) and working in partnership with Paul Barnett Design Group, CBS created results that were both rewarding and appealing to the staff of Orana School, following the 2003 loss of the original kindergarten in the fires.

  • Adopting alternative Steiner philosophy to design and construction. The scope set was to use environmentally friendly materials throughout the build.

  • Extensive use of recycled timbers that involved procurement spanning East and Southern Australia.

  • Built after original building was lost in 2003 Canberra Fires.

Skills:

  • Working in functional and beneficial relationship with the Orana School Staff in order to creatively design and deliver concepts.

  • Selecting and coordinating artists to undertake sculpture work on the entry timber columns.

  • Hand cutting structural roof timbers.

Orana: High School (classrooms)

  • I addition to the skills used in the works for the Orana Preschool, CBS was at all times in tune with the requirements of the Orana School’s philosophies and high standard of build requirements. In some cases, in order to satisfy budgetary constraints, CBS was able to convert a basic kit type structure into a pleasing ‘Steiner’ finish by using recycled and profiled natural timbers.
